The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Day Stationery and Signage
The Ultimate Guide to Wedding Day Stationery and Signage
Invitations have been mailed, guests are sending in their RSVPs and the majority of your vendors are finalizing your details. It may feel like you’re close to calling it on the creative parts of your wedding planning, but then you remember–day of stationery! The ultimate way to bring the beauty of your invitations full circle and to make your day gorgeous from the moment guests arrive until they’re on their way home. As a full service stationery designer I have helped almost all of my brides and grooms find ways to incorporate unique signage and design elements into their wedding days. Aside from sharing the perfect invitation design, it is honestly one of my favorite parts of this job.
Today I am going to walk you through many of the fun and unique ways we can incorporate wedding day stationery and signage into your own wedding; but remember this is just a starting place and day of stationery has limitless possibilities!
Wedding Signage Idea #1: Welcome Signs
As guests arrive I love knowing that they get a warm welcome. Mirror welcome signs have been a long time trend and I don’t see them going anywhere. They’re versatile and sustainable (a huge trend these days!) as they can be reused after the wedding, anywhere in your home. Grabbing a mirror off a resale sight or at a thrift store is a great way to add a little vintage charm. Or if you’re going for a more modern vibe, consider incorporating a full length floor mirror with a clean and simple border. Have us add in a bit of lettering and some pretty hand drawn florals and you’re set!
Another trend I am loving lately is the incorporation of fabric signs. We can easily repurpose artwork from your invitation–florals, venues, dogs, you name it!--and add them to a sign that greets your guests.
Wedding Signage Idea #2: Ceremony Programs
Whether you’re planning on having a small intimate ceremony or a full Catholic Mass, you’ll likely want to inform guests of what to expect as they sit down. An option for a shorter and more intimate event would be placing one large ceremony timeline at the start of the aisle for guests to glance at as they take their seats. If you’re planning to go a more traditional route consider placing programs on guest seats to ensure everyone takes one. I love suggesting double sided programs to include all of the important information in a compact way.
Wedding Signage and Stationery Idea #3: Vow Books:
In my opinion vow books are the epitome of a keepsake for your wedding day. The words you speak to one another in front of all of your loved ones, tucked into a gorgeous hand painted booklet? Absolutely priceless!
Wedding Signage Idea #4: Seating Charts, Escort Cards and Place Cards
Directing guests to their seats is an obvious part of your evening. But how you do it is completely up to you! Large mirrors are a classic and elegant way to let guests know where they’re going. They coordinate well if you’re already using one for your welcome sign and again, there is the beautiful element of sustainability to consider.
If you’ve decided to offer guests a plated dinner you’ll need to consider ways to indicate not only their table number but also share their meal choice with the caterers. There are so many ways to do this–little icons, different colored cards, lettering, ribbons or even wax seals. These cute little cards can be placed at tables if you’re already using a seating chart, or left for guests to pick up at the front of your venue to serve both purposes.
Wedding Signage Idea #5: Table Numbers
Another sort of obvious one but you’ll absolutely need to indicate which table is which! I love suggesting that clients incorporate more of the artwork from their invitations here as it is a very easy way to help make the day cohesive. Consider adding a fun shape or a unique frame to add a bit of character and to help the overall aesthetics of the table.
Wedding Signage Idea #6: Bar and Dessert Signs
While some venues might offer lists of the beverages available, this is a great opportunity to add a punch of character! I suggest finding a great balance between the aesthetic of your wedding and the overall vibe of your venue. Getting married in a rustic barn? How about listing your cocktails on a cute framed chalkboard or some butcher paper? Whimsical wedding more your vibe? Consider listing information on a fabric sign or pop it into a pretty frame. Bar and dessert signage are cute places to incorporate pet illustrations, venue pictures, artwork from your invitations and phrases that are important to the couple. And I ALWAYS love a great signature cocktail painting!
Wedding Signage Idea #7: Smaller Table Top Signage
As you’re planning for the big day, you’ll likely realize there are a whole lot of extra tables in your day. Purchasing 8x10 frames that coordinate with your aesthetic is a sustainable wedding idea that also makes decor straightforward and simple. Here is a quick list of ideas for tabletop information:
-guest book
-photo booth
-memorial table
-cookie table
-gift table
-QR codes for photo uploads
-menus
-custom cocktail napkins
Regardless of the size or aesthetic of your wedding, day of stationery and signage is a really important part of the overall vibe of your day. These pieces can add gorgeous details as well as a functional purpose! Which are you most excited to think about? Ready to get started on your own wedding day stationery?
